SEMA 2008: Five Axis Project GS 460

The Toyota and Lexus modifying veterans at Five Axis have put together a seriously hot-rodded Lexus GS 460 for the SEMA show. Following up last year’s IS F concept, the Troy Sumitomo-designed super sedan was revealed on Tuesday.

As the teaser illustrations hinted, the Five Axis GS 460 features a widebody kit housing massive 20-inch offset wheels, 8.5 inches up front and 10.5 at the rear. Custom-formatted PPG paint contrasts with the blackout wheel trim.

That striking bodywork is wrapped around a lowered and stiffened suspension, and Five Axis has added a big-brake kit and custom fabricated exhaust as well.

The GS 460 shares display floor space with last year’s IS F concept, which has returned with more power, as well as a range of F-branded Lexus modification products.

SEMA 2008: 2009 Toyota Tundra TR Concept

Toyota's tribute to the lightweight, high-horsepower American muscle cars of the '60s and '70s is the Tundra TR Concept, an unassuming regular cab rig with a matte black paint job and steel wheels. Underneath, it's a pavement-eating monster.

"What we tried to do here is create the ultimate sleeper," said Warren Victor, Toyota's project manager for its SEMA trucks. "It's all performance. There's no cosmetics to it at all. If you have a look, though, not only does it have a TRD supercharger and a TRD lowering kit, it's got twin nitrous tanks mounted behind the front seats."

The roots-type supercharger boosts the Tundra's 5.7-liter V-8 from 381 horsepower to 504 hp and ups torque from 401 pounds-feet to 550 pounds-feet. The nitrous setup adds another 150 hp with each shot of gas.

"For under 30 grand, you've got a 600 to 650 horsepower vehicle," Victor said. "It's meant to go to Pomona (Raceway), where you can run the crap out of it and see what it can do."

SEMA 2008; Toyota RAV4 V6 Performance Sport Concept Premieres

Toyota RAV4 V6 Sport Performance Concept SEMA 2008
If the sole purposing of creating this concept was to hide the fact that it's a Toyota RAV4, then admittedly MV Designz did an excellent job. The RAV4 V6 Performance Sport Concept gets a custom-made wide bodykit accented by 22-inch Alloy Wheels, a hood scoop, a panoramic glass roof, billet door handles and, new front and rear faceless fascias.

Toyota RAV4 V6 Sport Performance Concept SEMA 2008
According to Toyota, interior modifications to the RAV4-based concept are limited to a new upholstery by Reyes. Maybe it's a matter of personal taste, but we get the feeling that if MV Designz hadn't "surgicaly" replaced the RAV4's face with a Pontiac-like mask, we might have actually liked the outcome.

SEMA 2008: 2009 Yaris Five-Door Tailback Concept

The concept Yaris Five-Door Tailback is based on the all-new 2009 Toyota Yaris Five-Door Liftback. It features youth-oriented design and the ability to alternate between gasoline and compressed natural gas (CNG) as a fuel source with the touch of a button.

Functionality is emphasized through the automated rear suicide doors and rear split tailgate. The exterior features aggressively styled modifications including a custom wide body kit that enhances the front and rear fascia with a center exit exhaust, grille, and widened front and rear fender flairs that incorporate new full length side rocker panels. The custom hood and newly designed rear spoiler add to the youthful styling of the Yaris 5 Door Tailgate concept. Accompanied by the redesigned body is a set of DPE wheels that feature eleven inch wide rear wheels with a five and a half inch lip and are covered in Nitto rubber, Rotora big brake kit, and Tanabe lowering springs. Custom mixed green with gold metal flake exterior paint, provided by Sherwin Williams, further enhances the sporty styling.

all shapes, sizes and abilities," said Bob Swaim, national manager for Mobility, Regulatory Compliance & People at Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A., Inc. "We and BraunAbility intend to display the vehicle during the 2009 NASCAR season and then donate it to someone who can put it to good use."

The floor of the van has been lowered by 11-inches, decreasing the ramp angle and allowing for deployment onto curbs, making it easier to enter and exit the vehicle and increasing interior headroom. The 30-inch-wide power ramp has three conveniently located control switches, emergency door-ramp release and anti-skid ramp coating. Full ramp extension requires only five seconds after the power sliding side door is fully open.

Car News: Toyota Tundra Ducati Transporter Unveiled at SEMA

Toyota Tundra Ducati SEMA

Toyota showed off three Tundra concepts in Las Vegas but the coolest one in town was by far was the Ducati Desmosedici Transporter. Built to carry the only street legal MotoGP bike ever produced, the scorching hot Ducati Desmosedici RR, the customized Tundra has been modified to accept a 6.5-inch bed that features flip up bedsides and a motorized loading ramp.

The pickup truck is of course tied thematically to the bike, incorporating the Italian motorcycle company's red paint finish with white stripes. Power is provided by a 5.7-liter supercharged V8 engine producing 500HP and 550-lbs/ft of torque.

Under the hood, there's an 8.0 liter inline six-cylinder turbodiesel Hino commercial truck engine. A healthy five-speed manual transmission and a Hino DRW rear end get the power to the ground and boost this stretched Tundra's capacity. 22.5-inch wheels are provided by Alcoa.

Toyota didn't release specifications, but the Tundra's fifth-wheel hitch is rated at 24,000 pounds. No word on if such a truck is a serious consideration for production, or if it's just truck-guy chest-thumping.

Car News: Honda showcases 16 vehicle lineup at SEMA 2008

Honda will be showcasing more than 16 custom vehicles at this year’s SEMA Auto Show in Las Vegas, with a lineup consisting of project cars, concepts and accessorized production vehicles. Specially featured in the display is a 2009 Fit equipped with Mugen accessories, a Civic Coupe Concept fitted with Honda Factory Performance (HFP) accessories, and the 2009 Ridgeline Powersports Concept.

Honda also revealed a Civic Honda Factory Performance (HFP) Concept sedan that looks to improve vehicle performance while also conserving fuel. Honda Access America, Honda's accessory development company, took on that challenge. Through aerodynamic improvements to the next generation HFP body kit, super-light alloy wheels with aerodynamic covers, a lighter HFP exhaust system and an upgraded HFP suspension kit, this concept offers the possibility of improving both fuel economy and performance.

Honda also used the SEMA event to announce that it will make a complete line of new Mugen accessories available for the 2009 Fit that will be available through authorized dealers in the first half of next year. Some of the pieces will include 16in alloy wheels, an aluminum oil filler cap, front sports grille, front under spoiler, side spoiler, rear under spoiler, sports silencer, rear emblem, quick shifter, shift knob, sports pedals, sports floor mats and a mirror cover.

Classic Design Concepts Group 2 Widebody Challenger for SEMA

The latest and perhaps last custom Challenger we'll be showing you before SEMA starts on Tuesday is from Classic Design Concepts. Called the Group 2 Widebody Challenger, its claim to fame are extra wide fenders from and rear to accommodate 20x10-inch front and 20x11.5-inch three piece wheels wearing 275 and 315 series Pirelli tires. The Group 2 kit also includes a stainless mesh grille and aluminum hood with CDC's cold air "shaker" system.

While the Chevy Camaro is technically the Official Vehicle of SEMA, the Dodge Challenger may upstage it with a parking lot full of custom iterations including a 560-hp convertible, speedster, 900-hp Super Challenger, official Targa and Blacktop concepts and, perhaps the most exciting, a Viper-powered variant.

We'll definitely bring your more pics of the CDC Group 2 Widebody Challenger and its white R/T brother, as well as all the other custom Challengers, from the show floor of the Las Vegas Convention Center starting Tuesday.

CDC will have two versions on hand in Las Vegas next week: a white R/T widebody and this car, a black SRT8 version. The latter features a Vortec supercharger good for 560 horsepower, Pypes Performance cat-back exhaust, KW adjustable coil-over suspension and Baer brakes with 15-inch rotors and 6-piston calipers at all four corners.

SEMA 2008 debuts a new concept for Toyota which brings the Tacoma range its first use of the 4.7-litre, i-Force V8 powerplant. And in doing so, Toyota present a roomier Tacoma with a further range of exclusivities. Among the Tacoma V8 Incross Concept's most prominent new features is its custom new Green Matte paint job but the custom jobs extend beyond such superficiality.

SEMA: Kumho Launches World's First Low Profile 15-Seres Tire

For those of you that get some sort of a kick out of feeling the slightest grits on the road, Kumho is launching the world's first ultra low profile 15 Series tire at the 2008 SEMA Show in Las Vegas this week (November 4-7). The immensely chunky 385/15ZR22 size ECSTA SPT KU31 tire that also benefits from a semi run flat capability has been developed as a conversion option for sports cars such as the Ferrari F430, Dodge Viper, and Corvette Z06. SEMA 2008: Hyundai Reveals Three Genesis Coupe Projects

First, there's the Rhys Millen Racing Genesis Coupe, with a 2.0 liter 4-banger mated to a turbocharger and a HKS sequential transmission to manage the extra fly-wheel spin. Hyundai calls this a "fully functioning race car" that is track-ready, with a turbocharger courtesy of Turbonetics and all body panels replaced by carbon-fiber.

Second comes the Street Concepts take on the Genesis Coupe, with long-time Hyundai tuner Shawn Williams cloaking this 3.8 liter V6 with his Stealth Fighter conceptual design, which includes camouflage (black) paint.

Lastly (of the coupes, that is) there's the HKS. Another 2.0 liter turbo, this time with HKS's own turbocharger and its Hipermax III "fully adjustable" suspension.

Hyundai wants to add a little tuner zing to it's image and so it has offered up several models for the SEMA show. Those models include these three Genesis coupes, along with three other Genesis sedans (more on those in a separate story), which showcase the Korean brand's rear-wheel drive architecture.

Hyundai may be an Asian brand but it's obvious it's their US division putting out these press releases because they offer no details on engine or track performance on these race cars. Those, one has to assume, will be forthcoming. Or maybe these cars aren't real and just for show. More Photos

Car News: Chevy Camaro Gets Full Line of Performance Parts and Accessories

The key word for the Chevy Camaro is heritage. And with this offering by GM's Performance Parts division, the Chevy brand restores a little of the romance that helped make the Camaro one of the icons of American car culture.

The list of tuning options is long and includes both interior and exterior trim kits, from cabin design to classic stripe kits in various colors. What stands out are the rally and hockey stick-style strip options which evoke the past (yet another 70s-referencing design cue) while keeping the contemporary Camaro relevant in the marketplace today simply by its boldness alone.

Also on offer here are some performance goodies for under the hood and beyond. It includes air box and exhaust kits for both the V6 and V8 engines to improve performance and accentuate sound. And the real kicker, a short-throw shifter developed with Hurst with the classic styling of that well-know parts maker.

No details on pricing or performance boosting are available but the pics tell their own story.
